Franklin and release 2.0

I am probably walking on egg shells asking these questions. 

I have seen some conversation and announcements regarding Franklin and
release 2.0, but the first annoumcements about these were quite a while
ago and I don't see any recent conversations about them. 

It's pretty clear that there is no set timeframe for these to be
released, but I am REALLY curious as to any type of ball park
guesstimate....  Or is it possible that Franklin and/or release 2.0 may
not ever be released?
