Actually we just had internal discussion about this subject.=20

I expect that SDM will be updated soon with a disclaimer saying that the =
address reported in CR2 is implementation dependent.

The possible option including but not limited to:

-          address of first non-masked element of the faulting wide load

-          address of last non-masked element of the faulting wide load

-          address of the first faulting element=20

I can=E2=80=99t even say what happens with real CPU as the behavior =
varies (between cores or even between different instructions).

What is important - the CR2 will always point to faulting page, ignoring =
the offset, so OS can handle this correctly.

Hi Bochs team:

I happened to find that when Bochs performs an avx512-instruction, it =
triggers a page fault, however the page fault is not triggered at first. =
That means not all 512-bytes data needs memory allocation, the 512-bytes =
data laying crossing a page that triggers page fault.=20

What Bochs does to simulate VMOVUPD_MASK_VpdWpdM is to split a 512-byte =
move into 64(512/8) attempts.=20

The potential page fault will update CR2 with current linear address as =
log info shows(below).=20

But I found hardware seems not to do this exact way, page fault will =
fill CR2 with started address of 512-byte.

I searched Intel SDM but did not find nothing to explain this case. What =
I=E2=80=99m interested up here is does it behave the same way of Intel =
CPU? J

So my question is: whether the CR2 updating strategy that Bochs obeys =
