I don't post much. My last post was probably years ago. I mostly lurk
and watch. So you probably won't know me from Adam.

I have mirrored the svn repo on my own git repo. Mainly out of
frustration with svn and its limitations (I'm often offline, need the
full history, etc). I'm not that great at git, either, but once I
started it, I found it vastly superior to svn (I found it superior after
using it for a few days, that is a few years ago, and I've been a fan
since).

I will try to keep it up to date with the svn repository.

I did add a .gitignore that does a few things that I think svn
automagically did (like ignoring the .lib files and *.a *.o *.la *.so
files).

I also applied the slirpinc.patch file that fixes the broken compilation
on linux mint 19 (and several others) that does not appear to have made
it into svn, even after a year. I probably should have done this as a
branch, but I didn't. Hopefully it doesn't cause any trouble for me
trying to keep things updated.

Given the ease of use, along with some other really nasty snafus
(sourceforge lost commits last year and instead of copping to it, made
the support tickets unavailable, seems sketchy), I would like to propose
moving everything over to github, gitlab, or another git host.

I intend at some point in the nearish future (or never, depending on my
life) to make a few small mods to update where bochs looks for things
like plugins, config files, disk images, and so on by default. Bochs
uses /usr/local/ by default, but this is hard-coded at compile time. It
can be changed by tweaking env variables, and this is okay. But I will
suggest updating it to the XDG standard. I thought it was a little wierd
when I first started seeing it, but I really do like the ease of use (it
works a little bit like how windows has the per-user directories and the
"everyone" directory).

As an aside, I've been using bochs for years, and I love it, even if it
can be a bit slow. I used to use it for just playing with old pc
software, but these days I tend to use it for bare-metal programming.
