Look around in your local area or on the web to find numerous examples of 'monopoly type' industries which are having to adapt due to government intervention for consumer choice. The example isn't a direct comparison to software usage, but give it some more time. There are a whole lot of laws which give customers freedom to chose a vendor. Perhaps one of them will permit us to choose Hercules and get IBM to offer their products without discrimination against a 'PCM' they don't know how to price for. It could be they just wish to restrain this paticular area of trade period, although I think that might be illegal.
