The IBM assembler is fairly easy to learn, but getting familiar with the hardware instructions and environment is difficult. In addition, there are major differences between the 370 and 390 instruction set. May I suggest that you pick an application that you find interesting, and work on that. Members of this group will be glad to help. If you are interested in PDOS development, the person to coordinate that with posts as kerravon86-/[email protected] - currently an MVS based operating system is used to run the assembler and linker, and you would need to pick one (there are at several 360/370 based distributions) Volker's tk3 augmented to tk4- (currently the best in my opinion); and Jay Maynard's site (more difficult to customize). Sample programs are available at cbttape.org, and many manuals are at bitsavers.org - also some modern manuals are available at IBM's site.
