Yes, Cisco had (has) quite a bit of stuff in this space. Some models
of Cisco routers can be equipped with ESCON or parallel channel
adapters, for connection to a host, and they can essentially emulate a
3174. They can terminate tn3270 connections, do TCP offloading, etc.
They can even perform tn3270 to ASCII+ANSI terminal protocol, screen
control, and character set conversion.
I got this running not long ago on a Cisco 7206VXR router with an
ESCON interface talking to VM/ESA on a Multiprise-3000. It works very well.
I believe, but am not certain, that some of their synchronous serial
interfaces can be configured to do bisync of the type required for
connection to things like the 3774 that we discussed in another thread.
That's something I plan to investigate soon.
