All, 

 I was finally able to get it functional. I expanded the DOS windows to full lenth of the screen and it Hercules messages told me that it could not read the disk files. It turned out that I needed to add a cu=3990-6 to the config file for the dasd and the system worked perfectly.
 

 I really appreciate everyone's help on this. I appreciate that there is a group where I can ask for help on this.
