I am not disputing that the proper thing to do
is to shut MVS down cleanly to give MVS a
chance to close its own files.

What I'm saying is that if you pull the plug
on MVS via "quit", *Hercules itself* should
still shut *itself* down cleanly. For example
the log file shouldn't have random results in it.
