Interesting. Thank you for the threads to pull at. On 9/14/19 9:43 AM, Jon Perryman jperryma-yBeKhBN/[email protected] [hercules-390] wrote: > SNA is a software feature. I thought I had read somewhere that it required something that Hercules didn't /yet/ have from an (emulated) hardware perspective. I need to track down what I was reading and see if it was possibly stated addressing specific versions of MVS / OS/390 / z/OS. I realize that SNA is largely a software thing. But I think there is an emulated hardware component as well. Perhaps it's the lack of the 37x5 controller emulation that you previously stated causing issues for MVS 3.8J. Backstory: I'm in the process of buying a P/390-E and it does support SNA over the emulated network components / controller (?). I'm hoping to be able to install Personal Communications on test machines (x86 VMs) and establish SNA (DLC via 802.2 LLC) between the test machine and the P/390-E. I'd also like to see if I can get an old copy of Microsoft SNA Server to talk to OS/390 (running on the P/390-E). If I'm feeling particularly froggy, I'll even see if I can get an old version of Linux (2.3<ish> kernel?) to talk to the P/390-E Pontificating this made me wonder if I could do something similar with Hercules. Hence the question, "Does Hercules support SNA?". *If* I could get SNA to work in Hercules, I might even be tempted to try to get the systems to talk to each other. I am obviously *WAY* out of my depth here, but I'm trying to learn as I go. I have many itches to scratch, and SNA (DLC via 802.2 LLC) is just one of them. (There may even be some DLSw in there for giggles.) Thank you all for the replies. -- Grant. . . . unix || die [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
