No setup needed.  Just download the .iso and either: a) mount it in Windows(*), or b) burn the .iso to an actual CDROM or DVD and stick it in your actual CDROM/DVD drive.

Then, in Hercules, just IPL from the .ins file that's on the .iso, and away you go!

Whether you mount the .iso image in Windows or whether you burn it to an actual DVD and mount that, either way, you should have a drive letter (usually "D:\") that you can use to access all of the files on that .iso image.

So when you IPL Hercules, just specify that file in your IPL command, e.g:


   ipl  "d:\xxxx.ins"


(where "xxxx" is of course the filename of the .ins file that's on your .iso image that you downloaded and either mounted or burned)

Then just follow the prompts that appear.

The hard part for most people is creating the Hercules configuration file with a networking device so your Linux install can access the real internet to retrieve its files during the install, but that's a lesson for another day.

(*) I forgot which Windows tool it is, but I seem to recall that Windows these days directly supports mounting .iso images so that they appear in "My Computer" as a normal CDROM/DVD drive that you browse just like a real CDROM/DVD drive.  I personally don't use it however.  Instead, I myself prefer to use a third party tool called ImDisk.  But to each their own.  Use whatever way (tool) you're most familiar with or most comfortable with using. <shrug>
