The only thing I can remember from years
of reading these groups is that:

1. Rick Fochtman (sp?) supposedly had something
in writing allowing the redistribution of MVT (not
MVS), but then he lost the supposed document
before scanning it in, and has since died, so we
have nothing.

2. Someone, maybe Jay Maynard, reported that he
had rung IBM asking if MVS 3.8J could be redistributed,
and he was verbally told that it should be OK, but
when he asked for that in writing he was flatly
refused.

That's a far cry from IBM confirming that it is
public domain and we can do whatever we
want with it. Personally I believe it is public
domain and we can do whatever we want
with it, but that's not the same as IBM putting
that in writing.
