Wise words, Brian. Thanks for that. I want to add to this that we should not forget the "JAZZ" factor either. That could very well be causing his problem: http://www.jazzsoftware.co.nz/ Peter mentioned he is trying to test their (FTP?) software (it's unclear to me whether it is Window software or mainframe (z/OS) software or both) and if he already has it installed (or any other specialized networking type software) I would STRONGLY SUGGEST that it *ALL* be uninstalled until we are able to first get everything working normally (i.e. until we are sure his system -- including FTP -- is stable). Only once his system is stable and it appears everything is working fine, then an ONLY THEN should other variables be introduced into the equation (such as JAZZ, etc). Only when you approach the problem from that angle will you ever know whether or not it is JAZZ confusing the issue or not. If it works fine without Jazz, but fails as soon as Jazz is installed, then it's Jazz that's causing the problem. And if it is Jazz, it doesn't necessarily mean Jazz is at fault. It might be that Jazz is trying to do something that Hercules wasn't designed to expect/support, and that is why things go south then it is used. If that's the case, then it will take a LOT (*significant*) amount if detailed debugging by more than one Hercules developer to determine the cause. But let's FIRST determine whether Jazz it at fault or not before we travel down that road. REMOVE JAZZ and *all* other third party networking software FIRST, so we can get your system stable! I just thought I'd remind you (and Peter!) that Standard Troubleshooting Technique 101 is usually the best approach to take in such situations. I'll go back to lurking now and leave you to and others help Peter. I've still got a shit ton of things I need to do (pretty much all of it Hercules related) so I better get back to it. :) Good luck you guys! -- "Fish" (David B.
