I had not seen this previously:
" Pretty much anything (ascii, binary, large, small) I try to send (FTP PUT) using the onboard LAN cable connection dies quickly. If I use the Wi-Fi connection then it always works. So why not use the Wi-Fi all the time? Because I cannot ping public addresses, or even my router, from ISPF 6 if I do; whereas this works fine using the onboard LAN cable connection."

So your wi-fi has no FTP problems, but can't ping, whereas your internal ethernet adapter can ping, but can't send FTP without locking up?

Can you remove the internal adapter from the PC?

I am assuming that both of these adapters are not active at the same time, is that a true statement?

If the Internal ethernet adapter is removed (or disabled in BIOS or eufi if you can't physically remove it), do you still have the ping issue(s)?

does your router treat the Wifi connection differently than the internal ethernet connection? (i.e. are any ports or capabilities restricted for wi-fi users).

are the properties of wifi and the internal adapter the same (i.e. obtain DNS server automatically set)

It might be helpful for you to post an IPCONFIG /ALL when you only have the wifi and also when you only have the internal ethernet so that I can see what you have specified differently.

Obviously something is different, we just need to see what it is.
