Re: Class Notes for a PL/I Course.

An interesting "read" now-a-days would be the library of books on PL/I
referred to in the early 1960's as the "Vienna Documents".

One of my early office mates was the PL/I implementation Chairman
for the IBM SHARE users group. He had a copy of these documents which
explained the inner workings of the PL/I Language, compiler, etc.
Most importantly it also identified  "the why" certain things were done the
way they were.

I browsed some  of the volumes why back then, but was too inexperienced
in "The Art of Programming" to understand what I was reading. Years later,
I wished I had a copy...

PL/I has always been my favorite language, but in the early 1970's a job
change found myself in a shop that was mostly COBOL, and since I was
one of the few who could write in assembler that became the language
of necessity,

About 5 years later, I was transferred into the Systems Programming
Support Unit, so I never picked up on the newer versions of PL/I.

Over the years I have had many, many reference manuals for products in
those early years, but due to a number of cross-country moves I had to
eliminate most of them. (Damn!)

....and then I discovered Hercules...
