I have started work on the Editor - 
 
The browser is now Stable - (had lots of problems with CMS and CP comands
and security). It has been up and running for almost 4 days and several of
you have tried it
Had a few problems and I fixed those. It looks very nice and I invite more
of you to try it - as feedback is the stuff that gives us incentive to go
forward.
 
As I said I have stared on the editor - To get the basics working it should
be pretty quick since most of the routines can be copied from the browse
program.
 
But I do have a question for the community.
 
As I have stated before it is a multi-tasking multi USER environment - that
means that you can log on to two separate screens.
DIAL CMSUSER from two sessions. And I can allow you to do CUT and Paste
between the sessions. ( finally some use for  the USER-ID parameter)
Each session works independently but there are two screens. The code for
this approach is mostly in place and changes needed are very small.
 
The other possibility is to allow two sessions (TASKS) on the same
tereminal. similar to a TSO SPLIT NEW  command. and something similar to the
switch session function of TSO.
I don't have the logic for that in place and it will take a bit of
development - It's a challenge.
 
My own personal experience is that even in X-EDIT which allows split
sessions I usually logon to two separate users and do links and cut and
paste. I like to see a full screen of data and switching I froget what I
looked at before, Find myself going back an forth too much.
 
My two terminal approach would be much more powerful because I would not be
limited to the screen size for cut and paste and I would not need two real
user id's. Just the opposite the same user id for both sessions would be the
link.
 
On the other hand two sessions sharing the same terminal is more or less the
way most of the other professional editors work.
I think that might have been fine for the days when the hardware was real
and not emulated, or when you needed two USERIDS to work on two sessions and
the systems Guys were stingy with userid's.
 
But since this cms machine/application does not need separate real user-ids
- just the opposite - the link betweent he sessions would be based on the
user-id, that approach might be more useful and a lot easier to develop.
 
Not sure which way to go. I"d like to keep it the way most other emulators
work, but that might not be the best technology for todays emulators. Might
be a case of outdated technology.
Like to ear some feedback.
 
Of course Paul will say "do them both",  but that is not an option right
now.
 
Cut and paste would work in both approaches but in the standard approach you
would need only one terminal (session) - In the other approach you would
dial to two sessions.
Advantage is that you can view them side by side in full screen on your PC
instead flipping and flopping.

After keeping an eye on this thread all this time, I decided to try it
myself. I'm no expert, but I do have to say...it looks great!
