In the 370 days a I ran a production MVS as a V=R guest. On an 8M 4341 I ran with a 4M V=R area. I still ran a test system as V=V and it ran well for testing. 

Starting with z/VM 5.something V=R is no longer supported but MVS guests still run well. I use a guest in production daily.
