Rocky, I would go for a simplyfied B as option during transfer. Translate TABs to blanks - if not set, translate the X'09' to X'05' and not do tricky extras with the edit. The way I see it is: the tabs were inserted by some editor, because it had a vision to what column the data should be aligned to when displayed (i.e. 10 16 35 for assembler). But this setting is only known to the editor that did this and it should therefor be removed by the editor that did this. This inserting of tabs was a way to save storage space- but does this still make sense. Okay the editor you use does it- but would it hurt much if you set it to not do that? >> My version of XEDIT works the same way. No tabs. What version is this? regular XEDIT has SET TAB n n n - but you are right: this does not expand tabs that are in the input character-stream. -- Martin Pi_cap_CPU - all you ever need around MWLC/SCRT/CMT in z/VSE more at http://www.picapcpu.de
