First of all

I still have not seen any comments about the actual software --- DOES IT
WORK -

All this is wasting time that I could be putting to use to figure out to run
a CLIST from an Application.

So far No one has shown me an example and all the examples that I have been
puring thru for the last two days explain to me what I alrady know.

I do not see any example of Command processor calling a CLIST -------

I will give it one more day of research and if Icant figure it out I will do
dynalllocs and Idcams calls ----

SOME COMMENTA about the application please

COPYRIGHT STUFF

++++++++++++++++++++++++

I hate to admit that Paul is right about anything - That's like a
contradiction in the basic laws of the universe. :-)

But since the general concensus seems to agree with this silly point I will
look for something appropriate and add it to all the source members

I will not waste my time adding it to all the macros and copy copybooks - My
patience has it's limits.

But Ok - I will look around for some licensing terminology and then add it
to the top of all the code. !2 members

Paul BFN ---- Hate to admit it - YOU WIN

Would this satify everybody if I add it to all the major source members.

Copied that from the X3270 copyright which I found in the code I downloaded
from the X3270 site.

Is the copyright notice also copyrighted?

For those of you that have already downloaded it - Consider this already
included and it will be in the next release

Paulo - You can make your changes.

But let me know what you do and I will try to add to the next release that I
do

version 1.2 release candidate 1!]

Software licensing of open source software is a pain in the you know what
(pick your sensitive body part). However, this is a reality. A simple file
added to the source code stating its licensing, file name LICENSE, should do
the trick. You might need to actually have another file that is the license
or the latter may suffice. The reality is that once you get to letting
other people have the code, legally, fun and games ended. It is a sad
statement of affairs I know.

But, after you get un-steamed, your goal of contributing in a major way to
this community, which you have admirally done, will be neutralized if you do
not take an action. As Paul stated, buy _default_ your code is copyrighted
by you today. That is the law. Without the appropriate licensing, the VM
team will not be able to make it available in the distribution, ever.
People will not enhance it later, even for their personal use, because
without the appropriate licensing they do not have the legal rights to do
so. If you want to make enhancements available, you have to put it up on
your web site.

Technically, without the appropriate licensing, nobody has the legal right
to actually run the code either. In copyright terms this is called "right
to use." The copyright holder automatically retains the rights to use the
copyright material and without legally transfering those rights to others,
they can't legally run the software.

Again, after you have some time to think it through, you will probably want
to address this question. All the points Paul has made are valid and
examples of these issues can be found in the real world. He isn't saying
what he is to be a pain in the $#%#, which sometimes he is. In his way, he
is trying to be helpful in this case.

I will be happy to exchange more off list emails, if it can be of any
benefit. I would hate for your work's value to be minimized by this issue.
Ultimately, you probably do not either.

Yours,
Harold Grovesteen

All

Forget it.

You will not get me into this silly discussion.

I hereby grant to all the right to do whatever they want with the Code - To
manipulate in any possible way they can, to improve on it , or to*&(*& it up
as much as they want.

They can give me credit or not - They can sell it - Make a profit and spend
it on trips to Hawaii visiting Brian,

They can invite me along for the ride or not.

They can use it or trash it as they see fit.

My only request - not requirement - is that now and then you mention that it
is based on Rocky's original developnment.

Paolo - You can take the sign on screen out of the code --- Get rid of the
UserId table as well at the same time.

That was on my list of things to do - Maybe as an option though.

Still might want to develop an application to work off this that would need
a signon.

Fear not - change at will - I promise not to sue you.

Most that I expect is the next time I am in Rome you take me to a nice
restaurant.

After the above statement if anybody is still afraid to change anything,
then more power to you, you are a better man than I.

I cannot help you.

Roc

BTW ---- Has anybody actually used it - or is this just BS to pass the time

It Can't be that good that nobody has any problems at all except with the
copyright?

Not even a suggestion for improvement??????

I got one message from Faust about the IND$FILE which turned out to be a
user error.

BTW --- I have problem with the PIPE character in IND$FILE simulation
-Translates wrong - already fixed for the next release

Protect from what?

BSD just ensures that you get creditted at some
level for your work.

And then of course, if you don't think you got
creditted sufficiently, you are free to take the
user to court.

So to protect the user (ie developer) from the
fear of courts, I use public domain. Not possible
for me to take someone to court. I'm no longer
the owner. The public is.

I don't consider the job to be done until it's in
the public domain. So e.g. we'll eventually have
an unrestricted C compiler for MVS (GCC) in another
140 years or thereabouts, when the copyright expires.

PDPCLIB doesn't require the 140 year wait.
