The great Kerravon86 gave you the right answer.

I'm mainly a Windows user, but sometimes I installed Hercules on Linux devices,for example on various kinds of NAS (D-LINK - QNAP - SYNOLOGY), so I usually change '\' into '/' in Windows Hercules config files. 

BTW your 'export SLASH=/' doesn't work in Windows, so to heal an inconvenience you are causing a greater one.

The DEFSYM suggestion is a good idea (I have many computers and I'm using DEFSYM from the beginning of my Hercules adventure;-), but I think it should be left to the single user according to his preferences; after all we are all IT professionals and we should be able to deal with so simple tasks...
