Have dug around in some manuals and come up with GA32-0020-3, IBM 3803 Model 1, IBM 3420 Models 3, 5, 7, Magnetic Tape Subsystems Component Description.
It has about 16 pages of explanations for "Status Information and Sense Data".
If you think it might help I will scan it and upload it.
