A single setlocale(LC_CTYPE) call before the beginning of input parsing, and perhaps a single call to set it back at the end of input parsing, is just not that much execution effort. Still, if you wish to make your own macro for this, fine. One may also want to look at what the other parsing-related routines do in the rest of the toolchain. Maybe there is some code or policy sharing opportunity. - FChE
