I played with something similar in 2003, most likely based on http://www.scottklement.com/picobsd/

The trick with no GUI is getting the keys mapped properly.  How you do that will vary by what OS you're running.  It's been too long for me to remember, but I think there is a man page, HOWTO, or README that explains it.
