Re: DB2 System Level Dependencies

Despite the same name (DB2) these two products are like apples and ... dogs. Despite similarities and cross pollination of ideas the two products have very important architectural differences and are too close to the OSes they run on. For an example DB2 9 uses a private shared area above the bar (can't remember what the official name for this feature is) to efficiently communicate between DBM1 and DIST address spaces. Something similar is in works for making calls from DBM1 to IRLM local rather than cross memory.
