FYI

In the late 1970 at Schwegmann Giant Supermarkets in Louisiana I connected
NCR hardware to Series/1 for connectivity to the Mainframe as follows:

The Stores were connected to the mainframe with their Series/I Computers
used as computer terminal simulators, data collectors and ASCII to EBCDIC
translators to and from the NCR Cash Registers Controllers, which received
pricing for the scanning process and transmitted inventory, sales, movement
and statistical information in return.

The only protocol used was TN3270 to the mainframe and the Series/1
computers sign on to the mainframe as regular users, the mainframe was not
any wiser.

By the way I was the IS Director.
