2x3 beginning with K's are generally Techs like myself
 
1 or 2x3 beginning with W's are Generals
 
1 or 2x3 beginning with N's are, IIRC, Advanced (now phased out)
 
1 or 2x2 beginning with As are Extra Class
 
Because of 'vanity callsigns,' it is possible that someone with an advanced 
 license (or a club) may have a different call sign than their license  
class.
 
The number in the middle refers to the area your station is licensed.

Are the Ks all west of the Mississippi, like US broadcast  stations,
with Ws to the east? Or does the initial letter have to do with  the
class? IIRC there are/were Ns with lesser privs.

(in  VE3 land, got to around 3WPM at one point 35 years ago, but never
got  around to actually qualifying. Hmmm maybe with the newer codeless
classes I  should rethink.)
