The first release of MVS, i.e. 2.0, supported up to 16 CPUs, though it's not clear if it was ever tested beyond running it in the custom VM system that existed for its development. Some time between 2.0 and 3.8 (3.0, iirc) the code to support more than 2 CPUs was effectively removed, though the control blocks continue to support up to 16. Tony H.
