512mb is Turnkey #3 while 612mb is Turnkey #2 IIRC.

Jay Moseley provides a method to build from the distribution libraries just as the above two Turnkey systems provide on the CD.

The MVS systems contained or resulting from following a specific set of installation or build instructions cannot always be mixed.  What works on one may not work on another due to differences in hardware configurations in the MVS System Generation or software included in the distribution.

One hardware difference is the devices defined and which address they are defined at in TK3 vs Jay Moseley's build are different.

Software is different in all three as PTF's are at a minimum in Jay's build.  TK2 has many PTFs while TK3 has more.

Depends upon what you wish to accomplish.

If building from distribution files, then any of the above would provide instructions on their respective media.

There have been further enhancements and updates to TK3 on the way to becoming TK4.  A work in progress can be downloaded at:

( about 60MB ) to check some of them out.  You will need Hercules executable and tn3270 client as they are not included in the zip.

Also not included are the CBT and MVS source volumes to reduce size of the distribution.  These items are located on the TK iso.

Turnkey, #1 above, provides a fairly rich MVS environment ready to use.

Starter, #2 above, provides only the basic tools needed to build a MVS environment.
