All of the Wine code for CrossOver Office is provided on the CD, if you
purchase it.
It is also located on our web site at:
    http://www.codeweavers.com/products/office/source.php
The Wine source code of CrossOver Plugin will be similarly available,
once
we release version 1.2 (which we are working on, but it will take
us some time - we have other priorities).

Further, I am told (and have no reason to disbelieve it), that nearly
all of our
code in CrossOver Office and CrossOver Plugin has been merged into
WineHQ.com.

The pieces that have *not* been merged were held back by Alexandre
for the same reason he disallows other hacks and kludges (anyone who has
had
a patch rejected will understand <grin>).

With CrossOver Office, I think if you tried running Lotus Notes R5
you'd find that there were some fairly major bugs that had crept into
Wine's Notes support over the past year - and those bugs are now gone.
You'll also find that running MS Office is much more pleasant under
the CVS tip than it used to be (of course, we built on Wine's already
impressive support for MS Office, so the credit is not all ours).  
It can be tricky to install MS Office cleanly, but it's doable - of
course, 
the easiest thing to do is to run it from an already installed Windows
partition.

The reason you cannot simply compile Wine and have the exact
functionality
of CrossOver Plugin is that we do have a piece of proprietary code
that links to Wine to integrate with the browser plugin.  

The other reason that our product works more reliably than the
WineHQ CVS is that the CVS tip of Wine tends to move very quickly, and
tends to be
very unstable.  It breaks our stuff badly every time we merge...<grin>.
