as it seems a major concern to lots of people, I think it's
time to really start the public X11 fork we've talked about
as previously stated, this fork shall start on the
wine-20020228 snapshot and shall be kept under the OLD
wine license. it doesn't seem a good idea to add an anti-xGPL
clause
there are however a few points to iron out:
- hosting: it can be made at sourceforge, but, as Gav said at
his WineConf speech, it may be a good idea to host it on
winehq too. if so, the difference between the two projects
has to be made clear
- name: a name has to be found (especially if hosted at
sourceforge).
Several proposals have been made, but no conclusion. As a
recap:
Theleme (from the Rabelaisian abbey...)
OpenWine
WineM
after some thinking, I can add to the list
OpenWith
Ween (yeah, I had to look up in the Webster for this
one)
So, to come to a clear decision, I give all of the
interested people a two day period to speak out their minds,
the we'll draw the conclusion
- how to handle patches for both trees. There will different MLs
for the X11 fork (at least one for the patches). I'd propose
that it's up to the writer of the patch to sent his patch to
the right ML. Of course, since trees may diverge, it's up to
him to submit compatible with the underlying tree.
feel free to add any other comment.
