Thanks for the reference.  I have found that one can shorten links to Google
articles by removing the fields following "groups?" other than the "selm"
field.  In other words, the above link could be shortened to:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=9gpio5%24a8%241%25cesium.transmeta.com%40ifi.uio.no
