You're right, someone could still use the old X11 version. Of course, if this is good enough, why does the GPL demand not only modifications, but other code as well, be released under the GPL? If one prefers the X11 license, it seems preferable to use an X11/LGPL/GPL triple license to discourage LGPL/GPL people from forking the code and making the fork incompatible with the X11 license. (They can still do it, but it wouldn't be necessary to link with other LGPL or GPL code, so there would be less incentive to make a fork.) Deven
