Python 2.6 installation installer ended prematurely

Hi,

I use Debian testing (recently updated), with wine 1.4.1.

I'd like to install Python26 (I installed other applications). If I use
winetricks python26, or msiexec /i python-2.6.6.msi the installation
ends up saying "Installer ended prematurely".

I tried with a new system user and it didn't work (to be sure that I
didn't have a user specific problem).

It did work with a KUbuntu but I haven't had the oportunity to bisect.

Any ideas, pointers where to look?
This wine is running some other application without problems (not
installed with msi...).
