Cryptlib 3.4 error -16

I've been a bit out of the loop for a while, so forgive me if I've missed
something obvious...

I've just upgraded my app from the older version of Cryptlib it was
using (either v3.2.2 or v3.3.2 - I can't tell you which, sorry) to v3.4. I
now can't connect to any of the SSL-based servers I have around here
for testing - I get an error -16 ("Internal consistency check failed") of
type 4 (which I take to be "Non-allowed attribute present") at locus
6014. Calling fpcryptGetAttributeString with
CRYPT_ATTRIBUTE_ERRORMESSAGE returns an empty string.

I load cryptlib dynamically (i.e, I use LoadLibrary to load the DLL then
use GetProcAddress to bind to the relatively small set of functions I
use). This means that I have to create my own typedefs of the
functions for casting purposes: I have checked these typedefs against
the version of cryptlib.h included in the v3.4 archive and can't see any
differences, so it's not parameterization, as far as I can tell.

I'm using the 32-bit version of the DLL, as downloaded from the main
download site. I have not rebuilt the DLL in any way - I'm using the
binary as supplied, although I *have* recompiled my app using the new
version of CRYPTLIB.H.

The identical code in my application works fine if I step back to the
older version of CL32.DLL/CRYPTLIB.H I was using before and
recompile.

Can anyone offer any insights, or ideas of where to start looking?

Cheers!
