OK, so then it presumably works in Firefox because Firefox proactively downloads the other possible-but-missing intermediate CA in advance. And it presumably works in Chrome because Chrome would do so when the missing intermediate cert is detected.

So the only remaining thing I want to verify here is that GnuTLS calls a `getissuer()` function set by `gnutls_x509_trust_list_set_getissuer_function()`....
