and to make it harder for other applications to snoop the PIN by
grabbing the keyboard.  Only one application may grab it and thus the
hang is actually on purpose.  This is the usual countermeasure on X to
avoid such attacks.  In the dark old times of xhost it used to be
popular to read what co-workers typed on their keyboards.
