Unfortunately both are used.
Yes, you may translate them to the same term,

In German I translate both to "Hash" (there is no useful German term for
it).  I think we once translated some strings to the German meaning of
"compression algorithm" but that conflicts with reversible compression
(e.g. ZIP).
