I must respectfully disagree.   While few that might come prepackaged as 
system utilities meant to deliver services to the masses may not, to say 
that none have any business doing so denies the ongoing use of 
user-specific enterprise wide efforts that do just that.

It's not such an all or nothing world, there are stops on the bus line 
between 'local only daemon' and 'diskless client'.    For example 
daemons that want to store/update status/activity  reports and get 
configurations off an nfs share.  Some daemons each have their well 
backed up, replicated place on servers, in which application specific 
configuration files might be found.  This while they run as background 
applications on boxes in rougher environments that get replaced often.

There are many others.
