0x8010002e is SCARD_E_NO_READERS_AVAILABLE So it looks like pcscd is running, but it can not find any readers.

Sounds like an install problem on FreeBSD
Google for: pcsc FreeBSD no readers

This shows a number if possible problems inclulding:

https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/card-reader.53496/

pcscd also has some traces. see -d option

It could also be a permission problem, some other application grabbing the reader before pcscd or
as one of teh above says, the installation order: pcsc first, then CCID
