How does SSL_get_error() handle timeouts?

I'm interested in the case where the underlying socket has done
  setsockopt(sock, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVTIMEO, ...
(and/or SO_SNDTIMEO)

The man page doesn't mention timeout.
