According to my experience 10.3.9 (from which I have not managed to upgrade 
for a number of reasons..) will have to settle with 0.40. 

My config.log contains this invocation line: 

./configure --with-krb5=yes --without-krb4 --with-openssl=/usr/local

..which is with Heimdal 0.7.2 but it fails in the mac appl directory. 
(arla-0.40/appl/mac) Just skipping that directory allows the rest of the 
build to run through. Older mac utils still work, iirc.
