[AVFS] /#ssh time-outs

I just installed avfs using the in-construction gentoo package 

 (available at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23112)

The installation went well. I can now access inside the various archive
file format supported by avfs:

        gmarceau@catacomb gmarceau $ cd /usr/portage/distfiles/
        gmarceau@catacomb distfiles $ ls avfs-0.9.3.tar.gz#
        total 0
        drwxr-xr-x  18 10348 wheel 0 Jan  9  2002 avfs-0.9.3
        gmarceau@catacomb distfiles $ 

however, /#ssh:localhost doesn't work:

        gmarceau@catacomb distfiles $ ls /#ssh:localhost/
        ls: /#ssh:localhost/: No such file or directory
        
even though the ssh server is running great:
        
        gmarceau@catacomb distfiles $ ssh localhost ls
        [ lots of files ]
        
my log indicates that avfs successfully log in to the machines, then hangs:

        Aug 29 13:43:46 [sshd] Accepted publickey for gmarceau from ::ffff:127.0.0.1 port 33118 ssh2
        Aug 29 13:44:06 [avfs] RSH: timeout
        Aug 29 13:44:06 [avfs] program ssh: Killed

Is there something else I can do to debug the problem? Do you have a
debug-log toggle I can turn on somewhere?
