Hello all, let me describe my setup: I have a remote filesystem mounted (via NFS) on /oneforall. I also use AVFS by calling mountavfs, so that the 'virtual' archives are available under ~/.avfs for my user. On /oneforall I have a bunch of archives, and I created symlinks to their content under ~/.avfs/oneforall/... If the server goes offline, trying to access ~/.avfs/oneforall results in processes stuck in D state; this seems to be an unrecoverable situation, even after the server is brought back online and /oneforall remounted, even new accesses (after remounting) go in D state. Unmounting the avfs is impossible as well. The only solution is to reboot the machine.
