how do you use gfs

i will eventually have to justify gfs to people. the
system we have in place was purchased by the system
administrator before. through one person on this, i
received a very detailed description of how he was
using gfs. it got me to think how is everyone else
using gfs, what version, and what hardware. i'd like
to know how big the gfs community is.
