Data on demand for intermezzo type fs?

So, after seeing the following code in intersync's fileset.c:

  if (cache->cache_fstype == FSTYPE_VINTERMEZZO && 
      izo_ioc_mark_fset(root_fset->fset_mtpt_fd, ~0, FSET_DATA_ON_DEMAND))

I began wondering what would be the right way for an option for data on
demand for regular 'intermezzo' type filesystems? (and then how would one
flush old files that hadn't been accessed in awhile?) 

What are the problems with this idea?


Second, why are the checks for cfg.cfg_hoard_conf and cfg.cfg_reint_only
#if 0'ed out in intersync.c? Does it not work well, or has it just not
been tested?
