Define _GNU_SOURCE to get the declaration for basename from string.h

Thanks to Hendrik Vogelsang and Hannes Reinecke at SuSE for helping me
figure this one out.

Compiling with -Wimplicit or -Wall would have caught this one.  Expect
more patches to follow.  :-)
