[PATCH] JFS: sane file name handling (0 of 2)

I just send the following two patches to the linux-kernel mailing list,
and asked Andrew Morton to include them in his -mm build.  The first is
a simple code cleanup.  The second is more interesting.  I am interested
in any feedback.
