The OpenAFS Release Team is pleased to announce the availability of = OpenAFS version 1.6.12 for UNIX/Linux. Source files can be accessed via the web = at: http://www.openafs.org/dl/openafs/1.6.12/ or via AFS at: /afs/grand.central.org/software/openafs/1.6.12/ \\afs\grand.central.org\software\openafs\1.6.12\ There are no binaries yet. Those will be uploaded as they become = available. OpenAFS 1.6.12 is the next in the current series of stable releases of = OpenAFS for all platforms except Microsoft Windows. Besides other bug fixes and enhancements, important changes include: * A fix to avoid potential database corruption With all prior releases of OpenAFS there was a risk of database = corruption if a database server is shut down and then brought up again quickly with = an altered database. This happened if the coordinating server (the "sync = site") hadn't noticed that the peer server is down before the latter is = started again, which could take up to 75 seconds. Details are discussed in [1]. This = issue is fixed in this release by introducing additional checks of the server = state and the validity of the local database. * A fix to avoid spurious errors during memory mapped I/O on Linux With some kernel versions and under certain conditions, EIO errors = could occur when large chunks of data were written to a memory mapped file = in AFS. * Support for recent Linux kernels up to 4.1 At the time of writing it seems likely that Linux 4.2 will require = further changes and will thus not be supported by this release. For the full list of user visible changes in 1.6.12, please see http://dl.openafs.org/dl/1.6.12/RELNOTES-1.6.12 Bug reports should be filed to [email protected] .
