OpenAFS 1.4 Release Candidate 5 now available

The OpenAFS Gatekeepers are pleased to announce the availability of
OpenAFS version 1.4 Release Candidate 5.  Source files and currently
available binaries may be accessed via the web at:

Important changes since release candidate 4 include:

* AIX: reverted AFSDB changes

* AIX: fixed some build-time issues

* UNIX/Linux: pthread glock changes to deal with optimization issues

* LINUX: updated swsusp support

* WINDOWS: New HTML Release Notes installed on the local disk with the
  software.

* WINDOWS: When all servers are marked down, the cache manager used to
  retry indefinitely until the hard dead timeout was reached.   This had
  two very negative consequences.  First, if the Windows CIFS client
  timed out, it would break all open sessions which would result in
  all open files being closed whether or not it was necessary.  Second.
  the Explorer Shell would appear to hang indefinitely.   As of this
  release, a "bad network path" error is returned immediately.  This
  allows the Explorer Shell to behave itself and prevents the unaffected
  file handles from being closed.

* WINDOWS: New Product Codes assigned to the MSI.  This will force an
  upgrade when the MSI is installed over a 1.3 release.

At the present time there are no known bugs that would prevent this
from being the final release candidate build.   Please assist us by
testing this release candidate and providing feedback. Bug reports
