OpenAFS Elders/Gatekeepers Announcement

January 30, 2006  -  The OpenAFS Council of Elders announces the following
changes to its Gatekeeper and Council of Elders organizations:

Council of Elders:   Russ Alberry, Jeffrey Altman, Derrick Brashear, Todd
DeSantis, Jim Rees, Jeffrey Schiller, Laura Stentz, Warren Yenson.

The OpenAFS Council of Elders advocates the usage and development of
OpenAFS, sets the future direction for development, and provides guidance
for major OpenAFS architectural decisions.

Incoming New Members - Russ Alberry (Stanford University), Jeffrey Altman
(Secure Endpoints), Todd DeSantis (IBM), Jim Rees (University of Michigan),
Jeffrey Schiller (MIT), and Warren Yenson (Morgan Stanley) have been
elected to the OpenAFS Council of Elders. These new members have been
actively involved with AFS for many years, and they have made significant
contributions to the OpenAFS product.  We are pleased to welcome these  new
members to the Council.

Continuing Members - Two of the original founding Elders, Derrick Brashear
(Sine Nomine) and Laura Stentz (IBM), will also remain on the Council.
Derrick and Laura have been involved with AFS for 13 and 10 years,
respectively.   Both Derrick and Laura have served on the OpenAFS Council
of Elders since 2000.

Elders Emeritae - The following members will no longer be active voting
members of the Council of Elders.  They will be designated as Elders
Emeritae:  Travis Broughton (Intel), Craig Everhart (Network Appliance),
Peter Honeyman (University of Michigan), Ted McCabe (MIT), Phil Moore
(Merrill Lynch), Bob Oesterlin (IBM), and Garry Zacheiss (MIT)  We
appreciate the contributions of these outgoing members, and we are grateful
for their service.

Gatekeepers:  Russ Alberry, Jeffrey Altman, Derrick Brashear, Jim Rees

The Gatekeepers are responsible for implementing product upgrades,
incorporating bug fixes, making sure the code continues to work after
changes are incorporated, and interfacing between the Development Community
and the Council of Elders.   The Council of Elders has decided to ask the
Gatekeepers to also serve on the Council to more tightly couple the work of
the Gatekeepers with that of the Council.

Gatekeepers:  The following are current OpenAFS gatekeepers:  Russ Alberry
(Stanford University), Jeffrey Altman (Secure Endpoints), Derrick Brashear
(Sine Nomine), and Jim Rees (University of Michigan).   These gatekeepers
have played a critical role in advancing and maintaining OpenAFS over the
past five years.
