There is also the free to download Visual C++ Toolkit which contains the same compiler and linker from VS.NET 2003: http://msdn.microsoft.com/visualc/vctoolkit2003/ Forcing people to leave behind unsafe operating systems and development tools when better tools are available and have been for years does not make me sad.
